Mission:
E1 Only The Beginning
Timeline: MD01 1025
Following the mission briefing by the Captain, Commander T'Prynn stood outside the observation lounge doors and waited for the ships intelligence officer to appear so that she could converse with her. Once the Lieutenant appeared at the door, the Commander addressed her. "Lieutenant Frost, a moment if you please?"
Arianna stepped out moments later, mind going over the list of items she needed to handle, people she needed to talk to before they got too far away from the communication buoys. She was a little surprised when she heard the crisp voice of the Vulcan XO.
"Commander T'Prynn, of course. What can I do for you, ma'am?" Frost answred with a courteous nod, her expression not belying her inner curiosity.
"As you may be aware Lieutenant, I recently arrived here," the Vulcan told as she slowly began to walk away from the conference room, hands clasped together behind her back. "I would appreciate it if you would share with me any intelligence information that I may have missed so that I am in a better position to advise the Captain."
Arianna nodded as the two women headed away from the Conference Room, "I'll do my best, ma'am. What have you been told so far?"
"The contents of the mission briefing is all I have been made privy to so far," the Vulcan Commander informed as they walked. "I have not had the privilige of serving in the Task Force for some time and am somewhat, how would you Terrans say it? Out of the loop?"
"The scope of things is not much broader, I'm afraid." Arianna nodded her understanding. "We suspected for a while that something like this could happen, considering the events and odd movements of the parties in question. We suspected they may have a base somewhere, but we had no evidence so it all stayed supposition for a long time. What we didn't suspect was the combination of races and organizations involved. Especially not the Tzenkethi and the Talarians, considering their recent skirmishes and the near attempt of us entering their war."
"I have learnt over many years that the Tzenkethi are perhaps the most unpredictable species I have ever come across," the Vulcan told as they came to a halt at the door that led to the bridge. "The logic behind their endeavour is questionable at best. It may seem like they are achieving their goal at present, but surely they must realise that Starfleet has survived much greater threats than this new Coalition," the Commander suggested.
"That's not a deterrent though, to be the first to succeed." Arianna shrugged as they walked, clasping her hands behind her back. "With the entrance of the Breen into the fray, who have scuffled with each of them, just makes one wonder how stable this union will be. Are they really a united front or are they using each other to get at us and the rest of the major powers? That will be one of the things I...we will be looking into, I imagine."
"And what of the Cardassians?" the Vulcan queried as she continued to subconsciously mimmick the intelligence officers stance.
"I am not sure. This many wars in a short period of time, especially after the Dominion War debacle. They seem to be fortifying their positions within Confederacy Territory...which is likely why the Breen would have sought help for the lack of a better word. The enemy of my enemy and all that. History has proven time and again...one can never revive the old glory...yet they still try. For a race with almost genetic eidetic memory...they seem to forget we remember history differently that it was more often than not." Arianna shrugged, "or they just can't get over themselves."
"I see," the Commander spoke with a raised eyebrow. "I would appreciate it if you could keep me informed of any developments. It is my intention to be of as much assistance as possible and I can only do that if well informed," the Vulcan added.
Frost nodded, "of course, Commander. I am here to assist you and Captain Terax to the best of my ability, as well as data gathering for Intel themselves."
"Your efforts are appreciated Lieutenant," the Vulcan nodded. "I must return to my duties. Please feel free to contact me if you think of anything further," she instructed.
"You and the Captain will be the first to know," Arianna nodded, ready to go in search of Commander Parker, whom she needed to help her establish a link to Starfleet Intelligence that would always have a dedicated portion of the communications bandwith.
