Location: Starfleet Academy
Timeline: Last Week

“David Wilson” the admiral’s voice was strong even as he called the name of the 98th cadet in the ceremony. “Congratulations, I hereby commission you as Ensign, a full-fledged Starfleet Officer, and the newest member of the science department on the USS Magellan.”

Applause filled the hall as the admiral handed the young man his diploma and pinned the single hollow pip to his collar.

“Beverly Chan” the admiral called out, his voice cracking just a bit as his throat dried. “Congratulations, I hereby commission you as Ensign, a full-fledged Starfleet Officer, and the newest member of the engineering department on the USS Lexington.”

As the young woman returned to her place, Retired Admiral Rudolph took a sip from the glass of water behind the podium and then stood a bit straighter.

“Our final graduate, Lieutenant Minna Chang” as Minna walked up to the podium doing her best to conceal her limp, the admiral continued speaking. “Has been here before. She graduated from the Earth Defense Military Assault Command Operations Recon Sniper School in the year 2153, the Battle Staff NCO school in 2155 and the Sergeants Major Academy in the year 2157 in the year 2155 and is a decorated veteran of the Xindi Campaign and the Earth-Romulan War.”

The admiral looked at the very young-looking woman for a moment, then softened the tone of his voice as he spoke to Minna rather than the class as a whole. “Congratulations Lieutenant, and welcome back to our ranks. You are to report to the USS Magellan and assume the position of Chief of Security.”



“Thank you Admiral” Aki replied, her Japanese accent quite out of place in this day of universal standard education.
